Character reference sheet
hero
Maya
Impulsive, clever, guilty
A small, wiry eight-year-old girl with warm olive skin, enormous dark-brown eyes framed by thick lashes, and two untidy braids held with blue elastics. She wears a lilac dress with a white Peter Pan collar and a cardigan with embroidered matzah patterns along the cuffs. Her knees are perpetually scraped, and she clutches a crumpled piece of paper she calls her 'strategy map.' Pixar-style proportions give her an oversized expressive forehead perfect for showing waves of guilt and excitement.
antagonist
Dani
Competitive, perceptive, bossy
A tall-for-her-age twelve-year-old with a sharp, confident silhouette, honey-brown skin, and a sleek high ponytail secured with a glittery gold scrunchie. She wears a deep-teal velvet dress with short puffed sleeves and strappy gold sandals. Her Pixar-large eyes are narrowed in perpetual shrewd calculation, and she carries a small sparkly crossbody bag she refuses to put down even at the dinner table.
mentor
Ruth
Warm, patient, perceptive
A medium-height woman in her early forties with voluminous dark curly hair pinned up with a tortoiseshell clip that is slowly losing the battle. She has soft laugh lines, warm amber eyes, and a generous smile. She wears a flowing burgundy wrap dress with gold earrings shaped like tiny pomegranates. Her Pixar design gives her beautifully expressive eyebrows that telegraph everything she is feeling before she says a word. She always has a dish towel draped over one shoulder.
comic-relief
Eli
Enthusiastic, oblivious, loving
A broad-shouldered, slightly round dad in his mid-forties with close-cropped salt-and-pepper hair, a short neat beard, and round tortoiseshell glasses that perpetually slide down his nose. He wears a crisp white button-down shirt under a navy blazer and a novelty tie covered in tiny frogs — a nod to the Ten Plagues. His Pixar silhouette is wide and sturdy like a friendly bear. He holds the Haggadah aloft in one hand and a brisket fork in the other at nearly all times.
sidekick
Bubbe Miriam
Wise, mischievous, patient
A tiny, birdlike woman in her late seventies with a magnificent cloud of silver-white hair, deeply expressive wrinkles, and piercing blue eyes that miss absolutely nothing. She wears a lavender silk blouse with a strand of real pearls, and a floral shawl draped over her shoulders in violet and gold. Her Pixar proportions make her appear delightfully compact next to Eli, barely reaching his shoulder. She sips from a crystal wine glass and smiles a very knowing smile.
sidekick
Matzah
Goofy, loyal, oblivious
A medium-sized dog with thick, wavy cream-and-gold fur, an enormous wet nose, and comically oversized floppy ears. He wears a tiny blue bow tie clipped to his collar for the holiday. His Pixar-style giant amber eyes are endlessly earnest and he has a perpetually lolling pink tongue. His silhouette is round and bouncy, and he leaves a trail of golden fur on every chair at the Seder table.

The Story

PANEL 1
Panel 1
And NOW we begin the Maggid — the story!
My plan is PERFECT.

Every Passover Seder has a thief. Tonight, that thief is eight years old.

PANEL 2
Panel 2
Dani will NEVER find it up there.
Mm.

The perfect hiding spot. Foolproof. Unfindable. Unfortunately, also unmemorable.

PANEL 3
Panel 3
The Afikomen search starts soon. I'm ready.
Where did I put it?!

The strategy map had every brilliant idea — except the one that mattered.

PANEL 4
Panel 4
We CANNOT finish the Seder without it!
Maya. It's okay. Just tell me.

Passover grinds to a halt. And Maya knows exactly why.

PANEL 5
Panel 5
I hid it too good. I'm so sorry.
Telling the truth IS the brave part, love.

Eight years old, and she chose the harder, better thing.

PANEL 6
Panel 6
The dog found it. The DOG found it.
Good boy, Matzah. Very good boy.

It took a golden retriever to rescue Passover. Nobody is surprised.

PANEL 7
Panel 7
Next year, I'm hiding it. Obviously.
Next year, I'll make a better map.
L'chaim! To finishing the Seder!

The matzah was found. The truth was told. Passover was complete.
